Summer Project

For one of the summer projects, we need to pick 12 photos that had a clear Theme. On the brief, it said 'You could try to shoot a broad representation of the place through people, environment, and abstraction'. we also could only use our phones for this task. when reading this brief also said 'we barely take notice as we snap away on our mobile phones' we made me think how easy it is to just take a photo and capture things within seconds. Then I thought about hard it must have been in the 19th Century than today.
I then started to think of what theme to I what to show in the photos.

I then decided that my theme for the photos would be to take photos of other people taking photos on their phone as I am interested in how people can take photos with their phone and that you don't need to be good to take a photo and how quick it is. As a person who likes playing with film and the idea that film is so tangible and it takes time to develop.

I went to London to take photos of people as I knew that there would be a lot of people taking photos on their phone of London. I found this really hard to do as I felt uncomfortable taking photos of people and then my phone died so I planned to go up the next day.

  Next Day

As I was walking to the train station I saw these objects that really interested me so I took a photo of it and then I spotted another object that interested and it was like a trail so I changed my idea to tails of what people left behind.

These 12 photos are the ones I thought was the best out of the 28 photos that I took. When I took these photos I started to think about how they got there and the history of these objects. For example
the my little pony doll, laying on the dark brown wall. Was this toy accidentally left? Does the owner live at the house by the wall? I also like how the How the blue contrasts with the dark brown wall.

My favourite one is Metal mesh as it has a Sculpture Element to it. The colours in that photo are also quite dull but this metal snake like object is Shiny as the sun reflects off of it.
I also like the two pink paint mess photos as it's like a trail. and again I like how this Bright fluorescent pink is covering and changing this dull grey Pavement to something that stands out.

A Map out of where I took the photos

  1. You live in an interesting location Emily ... people seem to be very forgetful about their possessions! I really like the open minded and observant approach you had to this project where you were prepared to be inspired by what you saw rather than stick to your initial concept. It has humour too and does start me wondering how and why these objects got there. A really good project that relies on my favourite word - serendipity. Well done.
