John Baldessari
Throwing Three Balls in the Air to Get a Straight Line
I look at John Baldessari as I was thinking about making a series about a journey and showing movement in the series, as I was still unsure of what I wanted to for my portrait series. I liked how the Orange ball contrasted with the blue sky and that you also got to see a bit of the surrounding, for example, the tree in the background. I think I would like to Capture a journey of something and maybe try and get some of that blue sky. I also like John Baldessari photomontage work and that is also something I would like to try in my work as it creates more layers and texture within an image which then creates new meaning and maybe even a journey.
Robert Longo
Men in the Cities
After taking photos of journeys I was on my way home filming for the mini projects and I had a thought that I have noticed before about a city in London that is divided by the gentrification and how there is a wall that shows a physical diversion between two parts of the same place. On one side you have the gentrification version and on the other side, you have the small family business and the market. I wanted to base my portrait series on this ideas. so I was thinking about using stereotypes and have a businessman on the market side to show the different lifestyles people have in the same area. so I looked at Robert Longo even though my work has a different concept I liked how he got people in suits and that it captures the area they wore in and also shows them in run-down places with the famous landmarking behind.
