Portrait Presentation

                                                     Portraits

I stared this project by writing all my idea and mind mapping them out to, have a clear view of                                    what i wanted to do and how I could achieve these ideas.

           Idea one

        - The idea of when we take a photo of ourselves we prepare to look good or have the need to                   make ourself look attractive and i wanted to do the opposite of that and kind of create a photo             that shows that Beauty does not Define us. I also wanted to distort the face in some way. so I               thought about using tape to do that.

I also thought about adding different coloured light to create more of a distorted effect using a ring                                                                         flash light.

I didnt like how they look. I was expecting the face to look more distorted so i tried usinf duck tape                                                       as it is stronger then Sellotape.

But with the duck tape you couldn't see the tape moving and changing your facial features as with the sellotape it was clear and you could see how the tape moved your face and change the appearance.

I then found an artist Douglas Gordon who used tape in his double portrait work where there is him with out tape just as an ordinary man and then another photo of his face taped up as he wanted to show Split personalities. I liked how he made the faces distorted which made me think maybe i                                                           should try another ideas.

        Ideas two

I then thought about how time and movement can be Captured within a Photograph. I am also            very interested In time and how Confusing and misleading it can be and how do you Capture              time. so I started to take photos of people moving with the shutter speed open for about 1/2 to              about 5 Seconds. I also used the blue flash light in some of the photos to see if it shows a more            Interesting effect

I then looked at an artist called Jason Salavon The Class of 1988 & The Class of 1967-1998
Which reminded me of my work but his work was images that are layed on top of each other as it was the same person but over time the image got distorted. this made me think of time more and how people can change over time.

I then thought about playing around more with the shutter speed and use light from a Disco ball so that when the light its on the person it Captures there movement.

Here are the ones I thought where Successful

I then looked at Andy Warhol portraits film where he gets people to look at the camera for a long period of time of time which creates the person in front of the camera to feel uncomfortable and then you start the see them start to become me Self-conscious about them selfs.

So i then thought about capturing people who are Unaware that the photo is being taking and see what they to in front of the camera. I still wanted the image to show movement and time so I am still using a longer shutter speed to show this. Here are some of the images.

For my final portrait photo I was stuck between two images this one but i thought where it wasnt Centred and i liked the other idea of people not knowing they are being Photograph

 Final portrait

I chose this photo as I like how it show my idea of capturing movement and time also like how the person didn't know when i was taking the photograph. it also shows you what happens before a photo.
